For many converter topologies with DC link, precharging is required. This can be solved in different ways, from a simple series resistor up to a separate control with power semiconductors. The critical thing in this application is the behavior at the voltage or power limits. Due to nonlinear components and aging, even the simple system becomes a complex problem. The aim of this thesis is to derive characiteristics and dependencies to gain robust information on the limits and adaptability of these applications. 

Task description
  • Literature research, overview of the state of the art
  • Creation of an analytical model of the circuit
  • Limit investigation to verify the model
  • Investigation of tolerances and the effect on the circuit behavior
  • Estimation of applicability/adaptability for further power and voltage ranges
  • Goal: Complete investigation in a simulation environment
Requirements
  • Ability to work in a team and good communication skills
  • Ongoing studies with a focus on electrical engineering
  • Openness and flexibility to challenges
  • Ability to organize independently 
  • Ability to work independently and conscientiously
  • Experience with simulation tools like Matlab or Octave
  • Laboratory experience
